Shepherd of the Hills Foundation

Be an Angel on Earth

Put Your Values into Action

The charitable foundation is a tax exempt part of the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church and is operated to support our charitable missions. The Foundation is administered through The Board of Foundation Directors, which is composed of members of the Church congregation.

Donations can be given to the Foundation by one of several means:

  • Outright tax-deductible gifts of cash, stocks, bonds, or collectables,
  • Outright gifts of real estate, if properly, structured can have a sizeable tax deduction and still allow you continued use of the property,
  • The Foundation can be named as a contingent beneficiary in a retirement plan or IRA,
  • A very popular technique is called a Charitable Gift Annuity, which lets you transfer property now while retaining the right to an uncommonly high tax-privileged income for life.

A bequest given through your will or trust is a way to preserve your gift so it can keep on giving in ways that are meaningful to you and you loved ones. Many otherwise well-informed people have died without a will. When this happens, during the probate process the State often disperses the estate in ways far different from the wishes of the deceased. If you do not have a will or living trust, please plan to write one now. Or update your existing written Will or Trust to one that remembers your loved ones and your church.

Many people prefer to give tax-deductible gifts to the General Fund of the Foundation and let the Foundation Directors use the money where the need is greatest. The scope of the Foundation has recently been broadened to let you also choose to give to specific projects and programs. These include scholarships, facilities, music, care giving and other needs as requested.

If you would like to discuss any of these ideas in more detail with the Foundation, please contact our Church office for additional information at (623) 584-2280.
