Music Ministry

Shepherd of the Hills enjoys a rich program of music designed to enhance the worship experience as well as providing opportunities for the Congregation to enjoy other musical offerings throughout the year.

The primary vocal group is the 55-voice Sanctuary Choir which sings at all Sunday Worship Services from September through July. The services frequently feature soloists or other ensembles, Including instrumental groups. From time to time, the Bell Choir provides additional music.

Generally, the full choir does not sing at the Saturday evening services, although small vocal ensembles and soloists do perform.

Ken Goodenberger, Director of Music, is the conductor of both the Sanctuary Choir and the Bell Choir. In addition to his 20 years of experience directing church choirs, Ken is Artistic Director of Showcase Concerts, Inc., the parent organization of The Royal Renaissance Singers, and OperaTunity, a music education program created to acquaint students in the Phoenix area with opera terminology and traditions through delightful music and humor.

Ken is also a professional singer and a private vocal teacher. As a soloist, he has performed in many recitals, as well as with orchestras and opera companies including the Phoenix Symphony, the Oklahoma Symphony and Arizona Opera.

Joan Mork, Organist, was born and raised in Worthington, MN.  Her college education was at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and at the University of Iowa.  She and her husband John, a retired physician, returned to Worthington to raise their family.
