Missions

Missions

Budgeted Giving — Every year we identify several mission priorities that we support through our church budget. This is our way of emphasizing the importance of giving to others.

Communion Offerings — 9 months during the year a flyer is put in the church bulletin on communion weekends. The gifts support the Special Days and Causes designated by our Annual Conference as special mission projects.

Holiday Offerings — Three times a year, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, we receive a special offering which is then sent directly to support mission ministries that bring healing.

Monthly Food Collection —Communion Weekends — As we are fed on Communion weekends with the bread and cup of Christ’s love, we seek then to feed others through the collection of non-perishable food items. You may bring your food donation with you to worship. We will have boxes by the doors to receive your donation. The food is taken to Valley View Food Bank.

Summer Collections — We want to be a blessing by collecting items for others:

• The Conference Mission Project

• UMOM Back To School Drive

• Wesley Back To School Drive

*UMOM Watkins Shelter Dinner — On the 4th Tuesday of the month we go to UMOM to prepare and serve dinner for about 300 adults and children. The meal is prepared by the UMOM Catering School, which gives them the opportunity to practice their skills as well.

*UMOM Christmas Gift Cards —If you need a gift for the person who has everything, this gift card provides for those who have nothing. When you purchase a UMOM Gift Card your donation helps to provide a night’s housing for families with no home.

Sock Tree for *UMOM — During the month of December we have several small Christmas trees around the church. You may help us decorate them by adding a new pair of socks, which are then given to help those whose feet would be cold without your gift.

Justa Center — twice a year we collect items to donate to the Justa Center, a ministry that addresses the needs of senior homeless men.

Work Trips October 2-8, 2011 we  traveled to Salt Lake City on our second trip to work at the United Methodist Committee On Relief Depot.  We prepared supplies needed that allow the Church to respond anywhere in the world to a disaster of any type.

Africa University
In February 2012 the Desert Southwest Conference is hosting a trip to Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe.  We will have the opportunity to dedicate the Joel Huffman Chair in Health Sciences.  We will also stay and work for a week with the people in the region.

Habitat for Humanity — For the 25th Anniversary of the church we built a Habitat Home for the Nabija Family. Since that time we have also participated at part of a coalition of United Methodist Churches to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. In March 2008 a home for the Ali Family was finished and dedicated. And in June 2010 the most recent Coalition home was completed and dedicated.
